I just finished creating a showcase video of my limited edition printmaking.
When filming the artwork I noticed the pieces carry a sense of fun and value that reminds me why hand made printmaking is still relevant even with so much digital art around. As much as I love digital, the “authenticity” of digital work is changing. Hand crafted is staying consistent. Once I have an idea my prints start off digital, usually photoshop and Blender, then when finished I print each colour layer into digitally printed positives. They are then used to create the physical stencils on the screens ready for acrylic ink hand printing.
A few specific pieces caught my eye while looking through my shop. The Waterfalls Triptych is a series of three hand-pulled prints that use metallic inks to capture light on falling water and rugged cliffs. Another one is the Sunflowers screen print which uses Green and Gold inks to create endless fields of flowers that looks like a colourful patchwork.
Last year one of the more technical projects was a portrait of Alan Turing using TouchDesigner. I created it using Turing’s own pattern generation system called reaction diffusion, to form the image.
Why I Choose Hand-Made Screen Printing?
For me choosing handmade screen printing provides a more authentic experience. Each piece is a result of a long process that requires a lot of patience and specific skills. When you look at the final print you can see and touch the actual results of the artist’s work which is something a digital copy cannot replicate. It’s an “imperfect” labor of love that needs to be embraced and used to its own advantage. The time that it takes is part of the creative process. The resulting finished work are not just beautiful pieces of art, but also a connection to the artist’s creative process.
Here’s a brief description of three prints featured in the video:

High Seas
One of my latest editions is called High Seas. This hand printed five colour screen print includes four layers of metallic inks in gold, silver, metallic green and purple. The powerful use of metallic purple, with flashes of gold captures the motion and wild unpredictability of the open seas. The turbulence of lines and mark-making creates Immersive waves and lines vanishing into the ocean’s horizon. It was a joy to print.

Inner City Life
This Seven colour hand made screen print features a dynamic cityscape filled with graffiti decorated buildings, various city elements like traffic lights and street signs. Numerous small figures engaged in activities such as cycling and walking printed in Silver and metallic Orange. Various buildings and urban structures fill the scene, each with unique details depicting the urban chaos of city living.

Meadow
Is a vibrant, wild “patchwork” meadow that uses a specific colour palette of red, orange, and metallic silver ink. The panoramic composition is structured as an endless field of flowers that appears to stretch toward the horizon, giving it a sense of immersive depth.
